The Stages system is based on the 15' rule. What is "The 15' rule"? It is estimated that a total of 15 feet of matting is required to remove the majority of dirt and moisture from foot traffic. This allows each foot to make contact with the matting at least 3 times ensuring that the majority of soil will be stopped at the entrance.

You accomplish this best when you combine three different types of mats. The first is the outdoor scraping mat, the second step is the foyer mat, a scrape and drying mat and the final mat in the lobby. This mat is the drying mat.
